CASE STUDY

Skoda Automotive (Volkswagen Group)

When Skoda needed sales training material translated into 24 languages, they came to Presto. The training material is used globally in car shows and other sales networks. It required special translators who were skilled in the automotive, sales and marketing industries. After an evaluation of sample translations, only the highest quality translators were chosen.

Presto put an experience project manager and technology manager on the project. They oversaw several rounds of testing to export the text into a translation-friendly format, accounting for national character sets, proper length of translation fields and building adjustable fields for length differences between source and target text. Presto created terminology glossaries that were edited by local car dealers and prepared style guides and instructions for the translators.

A smart platform was used to exchange information between Presto, the client and the translators. Extensive quality control, editing and proofreading were required, along with checking translation imports into the e-learning system. To do this, Presto prepared testing scenarios based on data analysis so that all documentation could be tested at the same time – avoiding repeated testing. This strategy saved significant time and money.

Technical Documentation of Elevators

A major producer of elevators required the translation of more than 80,000 pages of technical documents with graphic layouts from English to 12 languages (German, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Arabic, Russian, Hungarian, Croatian, Slovenian, Greek, Romanian and Bulgarian) within four months.

Presto was up to the challenge for this very demanding project. To calculate resources, we made a delivery plan based on preparation, translation, and post-production. We created a special department of two experienced project managers and four junior project managers to handle this task. Presto’s team prepared the files for translation by converting PDF files and creating glossaries. We carefully screened and chose translators who specialize in technical translations.

For the final layout, Presto added an IT specialist and four graphic specialists to the team to do preparation and post-production. We adapted our project management system to smoothly transition files between production preparation, translation and editing, and final graphic layout. Thanks to our experience and careful planning, Presto was able to successfully complete and deliver a huge project on time.

The European Parliament and the European Commission

Presto has a long-term partnership with the European Parliament and the European Commission for their translation needs from major clients across the globe.

Presto created a special translation department for these government institutions, and we are proud to have served them since 2008. Translations for the European Parliament and European Commission require the use of manuals and follow strict guidelines. Our team of specialized translators and editors receive extensive training.

Each project requires prep work done by project managers before our excellent, high-quality translators take over. Our in-house editors prepare the final product using specific quality management procedures. Our in-house programmers have developed automated and semi-automated programs which help the project managers organize production and meet very tight deadlines with high quality standards. This contributes greatly to cost-effectiveness.

Localization of Computer Games

One of Presto’s long-term clients is a major producer of computer games. For each game, we have a team of translators and editors who specialize in the gaming industry, and are active players of the games that they translate. The translator gaming experience is vital for keeping consistency not only in terminology, but also in the characters, so that the way that they speak, dress and act are properly localized into the target language.

Knowing the culture, history, and current events of the country in which the game will be sold is of the utmost importance for translating and localizing the game to match the conversational language of the players. A great deal of ingenuity is required, especially for slang, sarcasm, and jokes.

Gaming projects require imagination and detail-oriented exactness. Preto’s talented translators provide the creativity needed for language and our talented editors provide the precise attention to detail to make sure the target language follows industry standards.

Everyday translations for a major Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Company

Presto’s cooperation with a major European consumer goods and retail company started more than 10 years ago. In the beginning, we translated catalogues with goods that were changing every week. Then, we added newsletters updating clients with new services and discounts. Now, we take care of everyday translation needs for the company – catalogues, newsletters, e-shop updates, digital marketing texts etc.

We have learned much from this cooperation. It was first time that we had to handle a request like,

  • “Make this sentence shorter.”
  • “The motto sounds strange in Slovak. Make it more local.”

Presto adjusted to fill the client’s needs. We adapted the client’s translation platform so that we could efficiently complete multiple jobs every day and make last-minute changes in completed jobs. What started as a learning process became part of our daily routine and has given us a long-term relationship with a happy and satisfied client.
